Aye Aye Myint A STUDY ON STUDENT TEACHERS’ ATTITUDES TOWARDS TEACHING OF SCIENCE AT EDUCATION COLLEGES The purpose of the study is to investigate attitudes of student teachers towards the teaching of science at Education Colleges. In order to produce qualified teachers, the positive attitudes of student teachers are fundamentally important. The sample of the study consisted of 600 primary student teachers at six Education Colleges in upper and lower Myanmar. Questionnaire survey method was used to collect data from the participants in January, 2020. The collected data were analysed by applying descriptive statistics. The results of findings are that most of student teachers have positive attitudes towards the teaching of science. According to the results of mean scores, ‘science learning’ is the highest while ‘assessment’ is the lowest despite numerical values are not different. It is found that over 90% of student teachers are in the high understanding level on the attitudes towards the teaching of science whereas below 10% of them are in the lower group of it. The results indicated that there are strong correlations between variables and most of the student teachers have favourable attitudes on the teaching of science. 2021
Kyaw Thet FAMILY COMMUNICATION PATTERNS AND RESILIENCE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN SAGAING DISTRICT The main purpose of this study was to investigate family communication patterns and resilience of students from universities in Sagaing District. The quantitative research design and survey method were used in this study. A total of 997 students were randomly chosen. Revised Family Communication Patterns (RFCP) Instrument developed by Koerner and Fitzpatrick (2002) measuring two underlying dimensions of family communication patterns: conversation orientation and conformity orientation was used to identify the students’ family communication patterns and Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA) developed by Friborg et al. (2003) to measure the resilience of students. The results showed that students’ family communication patterns were consensual (29%), pluralistic (22.4%), protective (22.6%) and laissez-faire (26%). There was no association between gender and family communication patterns of students according to chi-square analysis. However, education level of students and mother’s education affected family communication patterns of students. The overall results revealed that students were high in resilience. There was no gender difference on resilience. However, there were significant differences in resilience according to education level and across universities. And, students’ resilience was significantly different according to their family communication patterns. It was found that students of consensual families possessed the highest resilience followed by pluralistic families. The result of multiple regression analysis revealed that 32.8% of resilience of students can be predicted by the combination of two family communication dimensions. It was stated that conversation orientation had the larger effect on resilience than conformity orientation. According to findings of the study, parents need to create a more hospitable and open atmosphere in their families encouraging family members to express and discuss their ideas and feelings to be more resilient. 2021
Tin Mar Naing FAMILY FORGIVENESS AND SUBJECTIVE HAPPINESS OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS FROM SAGAING UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION The main purpose of this study was to investigate family forgiveness and subjective happiness of pre-service teachers from Sagaing University of Education. The study conducted a survey research design and quantitative method. As the research instruments, family forgiveness scale (Pollard M.W, 1998) and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (Hills & Argyle, 2002) were applied. A total of 800 pre-service teachers (400 males and 400 females) were randomly selected from Sagaing University of Education. The results revealed that there were significant differences in family forgiveness by gender and grade. The family forgiveness of females was higher than the family forgiveness of males. The results showed that there was significant difference in family forgiveness by grade. Family forgiveness of the fifth year students was the highest among the four selected grades. Similarly, the results revealed that there were significant differences in subjective happiness according to gender and grade. The fifth year pre-service teachers from Sagaing University of Education were higher in family forgiveness and subjective happiness level than that from other three grades. The Pearson product-moment correlation result revealed that a positively significant relationship (r=0.768) was found between family forgiveness and subjective happiness. The results of this study revealed that fifth year pre-service teachers who have high family forgiveness may experience better subjective happiness level. Therefore, it was vital to emphasize the pre-service teachers' family forgiveness and subjective happiness. 2021

According to the qualitative data analysis, the results of self-assessment form and students’ learning log showed that using assessment form and learning login portfolio development process could point out the strengths and weaknesses of each student. The results of portfolio scoring rubric pointed out that most of the students could perform well in developing of portfolio in learning of mathematics. The results of students’ interview question also revealed that students in experimental group enjoyed constructing portfolio in learning of mathematics. As a quantitative data analysis, the results of achievement test showed that students who used portfolio in learning of mathematics performed better than the students without using portfolio. The results of mathematics attitude questionnaire also showed that the use of portfolio in learning of mathematics could change positive in students’ attitude towards mathematics. 2021
Hla Yin Oo CONSTRUCTING EQUIVALENT TEST FORMS OF GRADE SIX SCIENCE: IRT EQUATING APPROACH Nowadays, the application of equivalent test forms has been increasingly interested in many testing situations because it can produce fair and equitable test scores for every student. In Myanmar, in accordance with changing in the curriculum, fair and square testing sites need to be constructed with the use of equivalent test forms. Therefore, in this paper, two equivalent forms of Grade Six science achievement tests were built. To develop the tests, a two-parameter logistic model (2PLM) of item response theory (IRT) was utilized. The two test forms were administered to the 1002 students from selected eight schools in Yangon Region in last week of September. Consequently, the responses of students were scored and two test forms composed of 25 items were equated with the use of equate IRT package in RStudio. 2021
Su Yi Hein GENDER AND AGE BASED COMPARISON: DIFFERENTIAL ITEM FUNCTIONING ANALYSIS ON DIAGRAMMATIC REASONING SKILL The main purpose of this study is to investigate the level of Diagrammatic Reasoning Skill based on gender and age by using differential item functioning analysis. This study focuses on fairness of the test for everyone. Firstly, Diagrammatic Reasoning Test was developed with the reference of Savillie Diagrammatic Reasoning Test, and Practice Aptitude Tests (Assessment Day). As a pilot test, total 90 items were administered to 115 students from Grade 9 and Grade 11 students from Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon Region on first week of September, 2019. According to the result, 30 good items were selected to develop the Diagrammatic Reasoning Test for the field study. Field study was conducted with 1142 students from Grade 9 and Grade 11 from four districts of Yangon Region. Item Response Theory (IRT) was used to analyze the data. The IRT assumptions of unidimensionality and model-data fitness were checked by using SPSS 22 and BILOG-MG 3.0. And then, parameter estimation was conducted by using Marginal Maximum Likelihood method. After that, DIF analysis was conducted by using Logistic Regression (LG) method and Lord’s Chi-square (LC) method to compare gender and age groups. 1959 Soe Soe Mar EFFECTIVENESS OF SELF-REGULATED LEARNING STRATEGIES ON ACADEMIC WRITING SKILLS OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS AT TAUNGOO EDUCATION COLLEGE This study aims at exploring the effectiveness of strategy instruction on pre-service teachers' academic writing skills and self-regulation abilities. The data were collected through learners’ essays, reflections and questionnaires which were used as pretest and posttest. This research was carried out in a classroom of 48 students for four weeks. Students were given self-regulation strategy instruction and modeling, and then assigned academic writing tasks. The strategy they used in their writing tasks was investigated through a questionnaire, their mini-assignments and reflections. Students’ errors and difficulties were the key focus and their opinions were taken through focus group discussions. The results showed that self-regulated learning strategy training could help students improve their writing skills but further instructions and feedbacks were needed as they used a small number of strategies and only a slight improvement was seen in their writing skills, significantly, in such strategies as receiving relevant information (from mean value 33 to 36), searching for options (from mean value 33 to 37), formulating a plan (from mean value 27 to 32), implementing the plan (from mean value 31 to 35) and assessing the plan's effectiveness (from mean value 32 to 35). Though this study was a small scale research, it illuminated that self-regulated learning strategies are part of 21st century learning. 2021
