The Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science founded on 16 August 1999 as an organization to promote human resource development in the higher education sector by providing a forum for teaching, learning and academic research activities, has now entered a new era with the inauguration of a newly elected government led by the National League for Democracy. The democratic process which began in 2011 has gained further momentum which provides the Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science greater opportunities to broaden its academic programmes and projects under the auspices of the newly reorganized Ministry of Education. The ministry is now headed by Union Minister of Education, the Honourable Dr, Myo Thein Gyi, who was himself a long time member of the Myanmar academic world¬ and had worked closely with, and is familiar with the work of the Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science.
