AN INVESTIGATION INTO PARENTAL RESPONSIVENESS, PARENTAL CONTROL AND STRENGTHS OF JUSTICE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM MONYWA TOWNSHIP
Abstract
- The main purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between two parenting features (parental responsiveness and parental control) and strengths of justice of high school students from Monywa Township. 379 students from three selected high schools participated in this study. The Scale of Parenting Styles developed by Gafoor and Kurkkan (2014) was used to measure parental responsiveness and control. Strengths of justice were measured through 96-item Value in Action Inventory designed by Park and Peterson (2006). The results showed that adolescents perceived their mothers as more responsive and more controlling than their father. Perceptions with parental responsiveness and control were not different between boys and girls. Maternal responsiveness positively predicted all strengths of justice while maternal control positively predicted only teamwork. Paternal responsiveness and control showed no prediction. The findings of this study implicitly highlighted the effect of parenting standard on children’s development. Even the same parenting features did not have same effect between maternal and paternal parenting.
