INVESTIGATING PROTON STOPPING POWER AND RANGE IN ALUMINUM TARGETS
Abstract
- Proton beams biological effects depend on their stopping power, defined as the rate at which a material absorbs the kinetic energy of a charged particle. The Bethe-Bloch formula is used for the calculations of stopping power of proton in aluminum, the incident proton energies ranging from 0.1 MeV to 100 MeV. The mean excitation energy which is a crucial parameter is also explored for accurate stopping power calculations. Stopping power and range values were computed using a FORTRAN-90 program, showing close agreement with SRIM-2013 databases.
