Abstract

• Myanmar and India share a long land border of 1643 km and a maritime boundary in the Bay of Bengal. In 1951, Myanmar and India signed a Treaty of Friendship which laid the foundation for their subsequent bilateral relations. During the leadership of Prime Minister U Nu and Indian Prime Minister Nehru, Myanmar-India relations were close and cordial. However, the relationship between Myanmar and India has fluctuated, with periods of strong cooperation and times of strain before 2011. During the period of 2011-2020, Myanmar and India generally enjoyed cordial relationships, driven by shared strategic, economic, and security interests. The objective of this paper is to analyze the political relations between Myanmar and India during the period (2011 2020). It is conducted through a qualitative method by using the secondary sources. This paper seeks to examine the factors that have shaped the dynamics of Myanmar-India political relations 2011 to 2020. It analyzes how these factors have influenced bilateral relations and explores the reasons behind both countries’ efforts to improve their partnership. It concludes that both the Myanmar and Indian governments had tried to continue to develop and improve the sustainable relationship between the two countries for their interests.
